“Research to assist medicine”

What drew you to RWE, precision oncology or digital health?

I had the opportunity to be at the crossroads between medicine, research and data analysis. After training in medical biotechnology experience in genomics and analysis and involvement in clinical research, I realised that I could be a means of communication between both clinicians and medical informaticians by direct involvement both in data modeling for clinical and genomics data and analysis.

What is your professional background & training?

I hold a degree in medical biotechnology and a PhD in molecular and cellular biology, I spent my training years in research hospitals starting from basic research applied to oncology and neurology and evolving in genomics and bioinformatics data analysis in translational research. I have been involved in European projects focused on clinical and genomics data modeling for oncology

What does your current role involve?

I am research assistant at COSR, Center for Omics Sciences at Ospedale San Raffaele. I am involved in bioinformatics and data analysis, clinical and genomics data modeling for translational research, gender medicine; I participate in national and European projects and federated clinical study protocols.

What are you working towards, and what comes next?

I would like to deepen my understanding of data models and participate in their development, use, and impact through a bioethical lens, with particular attention to issues of privacy, fairness, transparency, and impact on the patient journey.

What advice do you have for someone who is interested in moving into this field?

Consider data complexity and patients specificities and understand rapidly evolving new technologies

What's one thing people would never guess about your work?

Data speak clearly but humanity could produce understanding
